This is a sister property to Bowie Gardens. Both affordable tax credit properties were completed in 2011. Weslaco is a three-story complex, while Bowie Gardens in Brownsville is two story. Both projects use the breezeway design concept. Weslaco is 50% larger with 120 units on an irregularly shaped 8.34 acre site. The site plan utilizes five three-story apartment buildings, while due to an odd unit mix requirement, Bowie required five two-story and one single-story building. It's interesting to see how the spaces between the buildings and their height change the feel of the space completely. Both have been well received by potential residents and have comparable amenities. You might also look at Glenwood Trails Apartments in Deer Park, Texas. Due to deed restrictions on that property, all the buildings are single story. This was a "first" for me, but the final result turned out fine, and single family occupants were quite happy.
